Why is it that Americans give a bad use to the terms Spanish, Latin and Hispanic?

Many Americans and Americans of Hispanic origin are stupid. They believe that Hispanic/Latino/Spanish is a race. I've argued with people about this topic and won every debate. The moment a person says Hispanic/Latino/Spanish is a race automatically loses. I hear people say Shakira is not white because she's Colombian and Felix Trinidad is not black because he's Puerto Rican and I'm like wtf??? Shakira is indeed white and Felix Trinidad is indeed black. Many Americans think it's impossible to be white or black living in Latin America.
