A scorpion wont eat?

i got a friend who has a black colored scorpion. he told me if i can get him healthy again then i can have him. the problem they seem to realize is he wont eat. he hasn't eaten for 6 months. i thought mabey he was getting close to molting and then they told me they were trying to feed him him pinky mice. i know they can eat them but mabey he needs something smaller. my tarantula was having the same issues so i fed him something different and that seemed to do the trick. possibly the same situation?
