How do I re-emble my Bachmann Model Train, Thomas?

One day, my little brother was courious, and took apart my Bachmann Thomas Model. I have tried to put it back together, but there are these small bronze/gold slivers that I think conduct electricity, and I don't know where they go. I don't want to send it in again, paying $15.00. How should I put my model back together?
